Apparently, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Infinity Ward’s latest COD, which will release somewhere around Fall 2013, isn’t goin to have a new engine. In contradiction to the promises made at the Xbox One reveal, the game will merely run on a modified version of the Quake 3 engine, that already dates back to 1999. The Lead Animator of Ghosts, Zach Volker, said the following about it:
“When we’re talking about a new engine we’re talking about upgrading significant systems within in that engine. We’re not talking about throwing it all away and saying we’re starting from the ground up. It’s impossible to develop a new engine from the ground up in a two year cycle”
This is another letdown for COD fans after the poorly improved visuals that were shown at the reveal of the Xbox One earlier this month.
Microsoft has just revealed their new console, the Xbox One. While the 360 was rather curvy, Microsoft has chosen for a more cubed design on the console, new Kinect sensor (which is delivered in each Xbox One standard package) and also the controller. The new features are listed below:
-The new Kinect sensor knows your voice and logs you in automatically if it hears your voice.
-Kinect is the pillar of the console, because it directs everything the console and the TV do and it can be easily controlled by using simple hand gestures and voice commands.
-The One has 8 GB of Ram and 5 billion transceivers, along with 500 GB of HDD memory, a Blu-Ray drive and USB 3.0 ports.
-Smartglass returns and lets you open a little screen on the right of your screen, so you can multitask on one screen.
-Skype will be available while you game.
-The console can switch between TV, games, movies and music in less than a second.
-The camera of the Kinect has a 1080p resolution.
-Kinect can read your heartbeat, which can influence your gaming experience.
-The Kinect knows where the controller is, as it knows where your body is in the room.
-The D-Pad on the controller has been re-made to be more precise.
-The battery is implemented in the controller, so you won’t need loose batteries.
-The Xbox One is powered by 300,000 servers.
-There is a TV guide implemented in the One.
-DVR game capturing is built in, so you can capture every beautiful gaming moment and upload it to social media like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.
-Achievements are now more dynamic and give you more of an overview of your personal way of playing games.
-The multiplayer will be able to have more players per server.
-Based on your achievements, you can search for your perfect gaming buddy online, while you play a game or watch a movie.
-EA Sports will launch an entirely new gaming engine only on Xbox One, which is able to reflect real human emotions and reactions, so AI becomes even more realistic.
-There will be 15 exclusive games (one of them will be Forza Motorsport 5, which is going to be already available on launch day) in the first year after the release of the One and 8 of them are new franchises (like Quantum Break).
-Steven Spielberg is making a Halo TV series.
-NFL will partner with Microsoft over the Xbox One, so people who play on the Xbox will be able to enjoy exclusive NFL goodies like videos.
-No exact release date has been given, but it will still release in 2013.
-There hasn’t been given any info as to what the One will burn out of your wallet, but expect it to be pretty expensive on launch day, even though Microsoft had already said they were going to make their next console a bit more price friendly than the 360.
-Call of Duty DLC will still be a timed exclusive.
This is nearly everything the Xbox One will be able to offer. On E3 there will be some more info about games, but this is it for now. On the reveal, the latest Call of Duty, COD: Ghosts has also been presented by Activision. Here is some info about it:
-It has a new engine, which allows fluid dynamics, high resolution shaders and textures and even interactive smoke.
-One of your squadmates is a dog.
-The AI has been massively improved, even for animals.
-There will be character customization for multiplayer.
-The story will be more emotionally involving and the characters will act in a way so you care about them as real persons.
The new COD is being developed by Infinity Ward, the creators of the Modern Warfare series. You can watch the reveal trailer for Ghosts here and the behind-the-scenes footage here.
